I simply cannot praise Carl and the Kugae gun dogs team enough! I have a springador that very early on showed signs of being a cracking little gundog and so contacted Kugae for some help and advice - I couldn’t have chosen a better trainer. Carl explains everything clearly and concisely and works with you to be able to achieve the dog you want to own. He’s helped us ‘iron out’ some issues (mainly with the humans and not the dog lol) and encourages you every step of the way. Freddie (the springador) and I both thoroughly enjoy our training sessions and I never fail to come away feeling more positive in our progress as ‘a team’ every session!

Took our 10 month old cocker spaniel to Carl for assessment, after prey drive had developed and I was gradually losing control of her. After the assessment he recommended a residential period with him of 10 days , it’s something he deals with regularly. I was so happy he agreed to take her as it confirmed she wasn’t a lost cause - I got regular videos and phone calls of her progress and was impressed by the changes I saw day by day. You really do get the feeling that it’s the only dog he is training, even though he has lots of dogs in his care and on collection he did a hand over which was very thorough and can’t recommend him enough, couldn’t fault the whole experience - thanks again Paul and Linda

Great day out with Carl and the dogs, in a very nice part of the country, thoroughly recommend for anyone wishing to spend a day walked up with dogs. Carl was insightful and generous with his knowledge on working dogs. Thank you to Karen for being a wonderful host. Hope to see you both again.

Bertie (energetic cocker) and I are at the start of our journey with Kugae, but we are already really enjoying it and really seeing the benefits of Carls expertise. Carl has a lovely way of delivering clear and concise instructions, with a clear path in what we need to work on. Both Carl and Karen are lovely and very welcoming, a great family run business.

Been attending Kugae gundogs for past year with my now working Lab. The progress she has made under Carl's guidance has been spectacular. Still a work in progress but enjoying the journey so much have taken on a pup and under Carl's expert tuition really enjoying our training and progressing nicely. As Carl always says 'nothing wrong with the dogs, its the handlers'! How true that is😀 Can't recommend them enough.

Very professional and great-quality dog trainer. After training with Carl, my own dog has come on leaps and bounds in his obedience and retrieval skills - especially due to the rough shooting sessions.

Rocco, our 3 and a half year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, had a full month residential stay while we visited Australia. He had attended previous group sessions and we had full peace of mind that Rocco was in good hands. We asked Carl to evaluate Rocco and concentrate on his main issues. Predominantly his focus on who is in charge. Rocco is more boisterous and reacts to children and strangers by barking which for a big dog can be unnerving. We received updates on his progress which included karen and Saul training him too. Now he's home, the difference is amazing. Recall, walking to heal with no reaction to dogs or children. I've recently had my dogs in with Karen and Carl for lodging and some training. My 10 month old pup has come back a different dog. His mum is a dream to walk and to do anything with really (she is a kugae) but the pup has been hard work. Getting him home and I actually love walking him now and would go as far as saying he walks nicer than his mum now. Sending them back end of June to continue with the training and start his retrieving.. Along with some lessons. I cannot thank Carl, but more so Karen enough for taking the lead with my pup and training him up.. I couldn't recommend them enough.

Carl has inspired both Finn and myself to reach out for high levels of training. He has an assertive but calm nature which clearly reflects on his success as a Gundog trainer. We look forward to continuing the journey…

Looking for kennelling and training of your gundog whilst you go on holiday….. ? read on. I’ve participated in several of Carl’s walked-up shoot days and young gun-dog training days in the past - always enjoyable days and excellent expert advice received from Carl. Whilst my family and I went on our summer holiday recently I booked my 2 year labrador into the Kugae kennel for a 2week residential stay and further training. Carl asked what training I’d like him to focus on and he sent me regular updates (pics and vids) of progress. Carl has a lot of experience of gun dog training so I knew my dog was in good hands. I also had piece of mind that whilst I was away my dog was getting the mental stimulation she needs and plenty of love and attention (thanks Karen and Saul!). Highly recommend this company !
